A distinctive specialist brand ready for a stronger eCommerce setup.
Ballistic Metal creates premium, customisable adult products with a strong visual identity and a focus on quality, durability and specialist manufacturing.
The niche comes with stricter advertising rules, unusual Merchant Center requirements and fewer straightforward promotional routes. Organic search carries plenty of weight in that environment.
The team came to us with a growing catalogue, a clear point of difference and a website that had stopped keeping pace with the business.
A strong product range running through an outdated storefront.
Sales were declining, organic visibility was limited and the platform had become awkward to manage. The rebuild needed to improve search performance, shopping and the day-to-day running of the store.
- 01An outdated eCommerce platform made the catalogue harder to manage and the shopping experience harder to improve.
- 02A small organic footprint started at 568 weekly users and 614 ranking keywords.
- 03Falling sales gave the rebuild a clear commercial job from day one.
- 04Category language missed real demand across several high-value product searches.
- 05Complicated architecture and URLs blurred the route to important commercial pages.
- 06Limited company and author detail gave shoppers too little context around the specialist brand.
- 07Mobile and checkout friction created a particularly expensive place for errors.
- 08Retail, wholesale and feed requirements needed distinct rules inside one Shopify store.
We planned the Shopify rebuild, SEO and conversion work as one connected project.
Keyword research shaped the store before development began. That gave the navigation, category structure, migration, product content and checkout improvements a shared commercial direction.
01
Research commercial demand
Use customer language to shape categories, content and navigation.
02
Migrate carefully

03
Separate retail and wholesale
Give each audience the right prices, accounts and indexing rules.
04
Improve catalogue content
Strengthen product, category and editorial pages around useful information.
05
Remove buying friction
Improve mobile usability, trust signals, product choices and checkout.
06
Grow relevant authority
Qualify niche link opportunities with care and support the stronger pages.
The rebuild, milestone by milestone.
Here is how we turned an ageing store into a search-led Shopify setup for retail and wholesale customers. Open any section for the development, SEO and conversion detail.
We used search data before making decisions about the theme, catalogue hierarchy and navigation. That gave the new store a practical foundation shaped by real customers and commercial demand.
Our planning covered:
- •Product categories and their search demand
- •The intent behind each commercial term
- •Mobile browsing and product discovery
- •Retail and wholesale customer journeys
- •A mega menu that could handle the specialist catalogue
We selected a responsive Shopify theme, built the new navigation and migrated products, categories and customer information. Careful URL mapping and redirect planning helped preserve important search signals as the store moved across.
The wholesale side needed specialist pricing, approved accounts and a private experience inside the same Shopify store. We built those requirements into the architecture from the start.
Wholesale pricing and accounts
Approved B2B customers received access to their own pricing and account features. Regular retail shoppers kept a simple public storefront with the standard catalogue and checkout journey.
Index control
We applied noindex rules to wholesale and other private areas. Google could focus on the public product and category pages built to attract organic customers.
Customer segmentation
Retail and wholesale accounts were segmented inside Shopify, giving the business one manageable platform and giving each audience the experience it needed.
Clean store architecture
Public categories, private trade content and account routes gained clear roles. That kept pricing, access and search visibility tidy as the catalogue grew.
Our research showed that some catalogue names had drifted away from the language customers actually used. The clearest example came from two closely related terms: "Butt Plugs" received around 29,000 monthly searches and "Anal Toys" received around 9,800.
We mapped:
- •The names customers used for each product group
- •Monthly search volume and commercial intent
- •Closely related categories that could be consolidated
- •Cleaner URLs for important catalogue sections
- •Internal links through the new mega menu
We renamed and reorganised categories around the strongest fit between product, intent and demand. Shoppers gained a clearer route through the catalogue, and search engines gained a deliberate hierarchy for the key commercial pages.
We reviewed product titles, descriptions and metadata against the new keyword map. Category introductions supplied useful context in a compact format, letting shoppers reach the products quickly.
Existing articles gained stronger internal links to relevant products and categories. We also developed useful guides, including the Ballistic Metal Guide to Prepping for Anal Play and How to Choose the Best Aluminum Cock Ring.
Those articles answered genuine questions and introduced the brand earlier in the buying journey. Clear links then carried readers into the part of the catalogue that matched their research.
We expanded the About page with details about the founders, company mission and product creation process. Author bylines and publishing dates gave editorial content a clearer source.
Product pages gained delivery information, FAQs, customer reviews, star ratings, stock details and size guides. Consistent imagery helped the catalogue feel polished as customers moved between products.
A size guide is a small feature with a very practical job. Better information reduced uncertainty and helped shoppers choose with more confidence before checkout.
We revised mobile styling for clearer spacing, readable content and easier interactions. Collapsible navigation helped a large catalogue fit comfortably on a smaller screen.
Checkout errors had been interrupting purchases on mobile devices, so we traced and corrected those problems. The final step of a sale is a very expensive place for a technical wobble.
We also reviewed the Google Merchant Center feed and product configuration around the restrictions applied to adult categories. Careful setup gave eligible products the strongest practical chance of approval and useful visibility.
We researched niche-relevant websites, blogs and directories that were suitable for a specialist adult eCommerce brand. Every opportunity went through a relevance and quality check before joining the shortlist.
The sector offers a smaller pool of appropriate placements, which made careful qualification especially useful. We focused effort on credible sites with a genuine relationship to the audience and product space.
The resulting links supported the stronger store architecture, commercial pages and editorial content. Authority grew around a website that now gave search engines much more to work with.
From 568 weekly organic users to 2,950 in five months.
We saw the search footprint accelerate, valuable product terms climb and the new Shopify store turn its first month into a five-figure sales month.
- 01Weekly organic traffic increased from 568 to 2,950 users.
- 02That represents 419.36% growth across five months.
- 03Total ranking keywords grew from 614 to 2,170.
- 04The keyword footprint expanded by 253.42%.
- 05The new Shopify store generated five-figure sales in its first month.
- 06Commercial product rankings and engagement improved across the store.
The store was attracting more relevant visitors, presenting specialist products more clearly and giving customers a smoother route from search result to checkout. It also gave the Ballistic Metal team a platform ready for the next stage of retail and wholesale growth.
The rebuild and search strategy shared the same blueprint.
We used keyword research to shape the category structure before development moved too far. Navigation, URLs, internal links and commercial pages grew from the same set of customer insights.
Shopify supplied a scalable foundation, and our technical work helped Google understand it. Helpful content expanded visibility, trust elements answered practical questions and mobile improvements kept the buying journey moving.
The result was a store that became easier to find, easier to browse and easier to buy from. That is a useful trio for eCommerce.

A new site that turned out better than expected.
Neal left us a five-star Google review and said the new site turned out much better than expected. He also gave Doctorank a 110% recommendation, which is a percentage we are very happy to keep.
His comments about support, trust and honesty mean a lot to us. A Shopify migration involves design choices, product data, SEO decisions and many small technical details. A good working relationship keeps all of those moving in the same direction.
